Hard anodizing

Short description

Hard anodizing of aluminum is the process of building up a protective oxide layer with a thickness of more than 40 microns on the surface of an aluminum alloy. The film that forms on the aluminum surface is the Gamma phase of AL2O3 (aluminum oxide).

Hard anodizing have different colours dependly from time, material and thickness of layer.

The colours can be variated from light-green/light-grey, till mate black, or dark bronze. Hardness of hard anodizing is a close to diamond, but a little bit lower than MT-Plazm. You can to see different colours of hard anodiaing films on a different aluminum alloys.

  • Surface thickness 20-200 microns (Typicaly 50-100 microns)

  • Surface hardness up to 750HV

  • Coefficient of friction 0.25-0.45

  • Increased resistance to mechanical deformation.

  • Adhesion to paints (some alloys can be painted by dye , but not all alloys. Good adhesion for paint)

  • Increase IR emition up to 10% when get black film (useful for radiators)

  • Corrosion resistance increases up to 50-100 times (test in a SO2 chamber) or more than 100 000hrs in 5% salt chamber

  • Possibility of applying various teflon and polypropylene coatings / impregnations to protect against various conditions

  • Resistance to abrasion is 20-50 times more higher than simple anode

  • Can be used in cooking or medical industries
